Think music festivals and you think of this open field with a big stage and equally big speakers, blasting electronic music as people, especially youngsters are partying and having a fun time. While modern day music festivals are all about head-banging music, partying et al, there are some who do music festivals a little differently.
Scratch that. Very differently.
The Montreal Bach Festival comes under this category of doing things differently. It is a 15-day music festival in Montreal where musicians pay tribute to the great musician Johann Sebastian Bach. Not only in Montreal but it is also held in countries such as Germany and the USA..
JS Bach was a German composer and musician from the Baroque period. Hailing from a family of musicians (let’s just say, he went Bach to his roots), he grew up learning music from his father and then later, after his father’s death, from his brother. He is known for his instrumental and vocal music compositions such as the Brandenburg Concertos, the Goldberg Variations and St Matthew Passion and Mass in B minor, respectively. He is regarded as one of the greatest composers of Western art music.
Well, if you have an entire music festival dedicated to you and your music then you definitely are great.
So, coming Bach (excuse us) to the festival. The Montreal Bach Festival is a platform where orchestras, pianists, cellists and many more artists from all over the world come and perform different works of Bach. They also bring in their own colour, making the music sound even more beautiful. Sitting in those grand, sophisticated auditoriums as the notes of pure, classical music fill the air…you start feeling grand yourself! You may or may not be into classical music but this is something you have to experience at least once in your life.
With so much good music around, this is a time when Montreal sees a lot of visitors (well, in general Montreal sees a lot of visitors because it is such a fine city). With world-class performers coming to the city, Montreal comes alive with music. This is also a great chance to explore the rest of Quebec and Canada as well which you can do with us!
